About Me
I feel like I didn't really choose being a therapist as a career but rather it chose me! I earned a Masters of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 2009 from UNCC. My original intention was to join the US Marshall's Service ( I always enjoy asking clients if they can see me doing this after they get to know me!) I returned to UNCC and graduated in 2011 with a Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling. I earned a professional Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling as well. I discovered my passion for counseling while exploring the impact substance abuse and mental health as seen in the criminal justice system. After completing school, I was able to spend almost eight years working at agencies in the Charlotte community. I have had the honor to be the Director of Adult Treatment at a local agency where I managed outpatient, residential and detox programs.
I have been fortunate to have diverse learning opportunities. I have worked with mental health diagnosis ranging from schizophrenia, bipolar and borderline disorders to anxiety, depression and phobias. I have experience with a full range of substance abuse disorders including working with clients in various MAT. I have worked with opioid use disorders since the beginning of my career including clients in OMT, on suboxone and with chronic pain. I typically work with adults aged 18 and over, however, I have experience working with teens 13 to 17 years old and will see these clients on a limited basis.
I was born and raised in Charlotte which is why helping this community is very personal for me. I enjoy working as a therapist and I try to find ways to incorporate not only clinical skills but humor and happiness into your therapy. I love Charlotte and the Carolinas; I look forward to having the opportunity to work within my community.
